Chain Letters

Chain letters are messages that attempts to induce the recipient to make a number of copies of the letter and then send them out to other people. There are many different types of Chain letters. Common ways chain letter senders get people to resend the letters is by including in chain letters emotionally manipulative stories, get-rich-quick schemes, pyramid schemes, and exploiting the charity of people and superstitions. Some Chain letters exploit the superstition of people by playing against their fears of bad luck if they do not resend the chain letters on to others..

Although no laws currently exist banning chain letters. there are laws banning Pyramid schemes, which are most often sent using chain letters. These letters are generally viewed as an annoyance. Frequently chain letters that multiply can clog up the postal offices and email servers.
